What is Erotic Healing?

The following is an excerpt of a talk I gave as part of a panel presentation: "Qweers & Erotic Healing", given at the 2005 Creating Change™ conference.

I see erotic healing as re/education in acknowledging & celebrating the flesh—all of the body—as sacred. We are spiritual beings, manifestations of Divine energy. The body and what it can do is a blessed miracle and something to be celebrated. We were given the ability to feel pleasure by whatever set of deities we believe gave us life, and that makes our ability to feel pleasure something to be cherished.

Sometimes the re/education can be as simple as learning about the body and its functions. Sometimes it cannot be verbally articulated, but is something the body ingests in its own unfathomable ways. This kind of re/education is a matter of quieting the mind, the inner voice that constantly reiterates all the bad things about sex (and those who like sex) that we grew up with. The body has its own wisdom, and if you can silence the mind's constant chatter, the body's voice becomes clearer & clearer. The easiest and most profound way to do this is through trance states. While the body is in this altered state, it is very receptive. Every touch by the practitioner must convey a sense of reverence for the flesh under her hands, and that touch becomes the conduit between the person on the table and the Divine Being that created her or him.

Physical pleasure is a sensual experience no different from pure seeing or the pure sensation with which a fine fruit fills the tongue; it is a great unending experience, which is given us, a knowing of the world, the fullness and the glory of all knowing.
